1. Happy cows might come from California, but these happy elk can be found just a couple miles outside of Reedsport, on Highway 38. (This is about a 30 minute drive south of Florence.)

3. This beautiful view of Tahkenitch Lake and the Pacific Ocean in the distance was taken from Five Mile Road off Highway 101 between Florence and Gardiner (about 20 minutes south of the Bridge in Florence). There are approximately 10,000 acres of undeveloped forest land surrounding Tahkenitch Lake. The lake itself exceeds 1,500 acres and has over 100 miles of shoreline offering secluded coves, quiet creeks and natural forest land abounding with wildlife. "Tahkenitch" is a Native American word meaning "many arms."

Paul E. Pearson got this photo by sneaking up a logging road and keeping a large stump between himself and Mr. (Ms.?) Bear, then holding the camera above his head. He snapped four good pictures before Mr. Bear discovered he was being stalked by the papparazzi, and departed the restaurant without so much as a “by-your-leave.”
