Come to the Central Oregon Coast...
if you believe there is more to life, if you love to explore, if you enjoy the changing of the seasons, if you want to be involved in living, if you want to hear the fog horn in the distance and feel the mist on you face. Plan to slow down, watch the sun turn the trees golden as it rises in the morning, and see what it does to the sky and water as it sets in the evening. Wave to your neighbor... and know there will be a wave and a smile in return.

The Central Oregon Coast is deceptive. Most folks drive US Highway 101 dividing their attention between the beauty of the rugged coastline, and the slow moving motor home up ahead. The towns of Reedsport, Florence, Yachats, Waldport, Newport are all bisected by the highway. From the road, you get a sense of length to these towns, but very little of the depth that exists here. Each of these towns is great; each is unique. But Florence...Florence is magical. And if you take the time to stop to get off the highway, you begin to discover things about our coastal community.

You will discover that the Florence you see will be different from the Florence others see. Will you see the 17 freshwater lakes immediately around Florence, or will you see the charming shops of restored Old Town? Will you see the pinks, reds, yellows, and whites in the blossoms of this City of Rhododendrons, or will you see the endless trails, creeks and streams to be explored? Will you draw comfort from the quiet and the slower pace, or will the nearness of Portland and Eugene and their airports excite you? Will you live in your jeans and hiking boots, or will you look forward to opening night?
There is something in the air in Florence. There is a feeling of promise…of opportunity…of potential. You must be creative to live here. There is a vibrant business community, but not the mega-companies you will find in Silicon Valley or Seattle or New York. There is a fine hospital, a new library and a thriving events center. Many of these things happen because the community bands together to make them
happen. This is a city of volunteers. It is a welcoming and warmhearted community, and nearly everyone has come here from somplace else. Most of our population is retired, but our school kids are amazingly active and amazingly supported in their activities. There is talent, experience and skill among our people. There is little traffic, but deer and elk and coyotes and raccoons and the occasional black bear are pretty routine pedestrians. There is comfort here in the things that are, and the sense of promise of things to come.
Listen to your instinct. There is more to life, and life is on the Oregon Coast.
